The Ship Inn, in Limekilns near Dunfermline, is said to have been visited by David Balfour and Alan Breck before they crossed the Forth in a rowing boat in the fictional adventure novel Kidnapped by the famous Scottish author.
The pub, which overlooks the Firth of Forth, also has a ground-floor restaurant and living accommodation at the rear of the building and on the upper floors.

The owners’ living accommodation attached to the pub is described by the selling agent as “highly unusual” for a business of this type with four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The pub was last put up for sale in 2019 and has now been put back up for sale for offers over £535,000.
The village has a population of approximately 1500, but the Ship Inn reportedly receives a lot of tourist trade due to the filming of Outlander in the nearby town of Culross.

The listing from Strutt and Parker, who are selling the business on the seller’s behalf, stated The Ship Inn would appeal to any chefs.
It read: “The business is currently run under management, led by an experienced back and front of house team.
“The business would certainly appeal to a chef/food operator.”
It added that Limekilns is an “attractive” destination to potential buyers due to its costal location as it said: “The village enjoys a tranquil setting overlooking the Forth towards Bo’ness and eastwardly towards the three bridges over the Forth.”
