A key route near Mildenhall is set to shut for three weeks as a carriageway upgrade scheme gets under way.
National Highways began work on repairs to the A11, between Red Lodge and Barton Mills, on Wednesday.
Teams have been at work replacing concrete surfaces, repairing potholes and cracks.

However, for the bulk of the project, overnight closures will be needed for work to take place, a spokesman for the authority said.
Firstly, the southbound route will be shut between January 13 to January 28.
The closures will only be in place between 8pm and 6am, Monday through Friday.
A diversion route will take motorists off the A11 at Elveden via London Road/Elveden Road/Station Road before joining the A134 at Barnham.
They should then follow the A134 south towards Bury St Edmunds before entering the A14 westbound at junction 43.
Those wishing to join the A11 northbound should leave the A14 at junction 34.
In addition, overnight closures will be in place on the northbound route between January 29 and February 3.
These will also only be in effect between 8pm and 6am, Monday through Friday.
The same diversion route will be in place, but reversed.
