A95 reopens in Aberlour after ‘false alarm’

The A95 has been reopened after a ‘false alarm’ in a Moray village saw several properties evacuated.

Emergency services were called to Aberlour just before 1pm amid reports of a potentially hazardous substance within a property on the High Street.

Emergency services were called to Aberlour High Street after reports of a chemical smell within a property.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service as well as the police and ambulance service were mobilised to the scene.

However, the substance was not harmful.

A Police Scotland Spokesperson said: “At around 12.50pm on Friday, January 17, 2025, we were called to a premises in High Street, Aberlour after reports of a potentially hazardous substance.

“Emergency services attended. A local road closure and cordons were put in place and several properties evacuated as a precaution.

“However, these were lifted at around 1.50pm after it was discovered the substance did not appear to be harmful.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene, which was a false alarm.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was safe.”
