The 12 homes currently on Nursery Place are to be taken down to make way for “modernised energy efficient social housing” which will be built by North Ayrshire Council.
Proposals were submitted by the local authority this week giving prior notification that the work will be taking place.
No date for the commencement of work has been provided at this stage – with application documents suggesting that a contractor is yet to be appointed to carry out the process.
Though further details have been provided with regard to the intended steps that will be taken throughout the demolition.
It is noted that, prior to the commencement of the project, the premises will be inspected for the presence of any toxic material – with these findings to be reported before demolition. Any asbestos will also be removed from the site.
Once work commences this will see the internal areas of the building stripped with all materials to be brought down to ground level.
The three-storey building will then be machine demolished – with the use of explosives and blasting not permitted on site.
Work will also be carried out to ensure the retainment of existing utilities. The present tarmac road and footways are also to be returned to their present standard once demolition concludes.
Debris is to be regularly removed from Nursery Place and any partly demolished structures are to be left safe at the end of each day.
The appointed contractor will also be made to examine any buildings or structures that are affected by the work thoroughly.
The prior notification application is currently pending consideration, and confirmation of the work taking place is set to be provided next month.

As revealed in June, the flats on Nursery Place are one of two buildings in the Three Towns earmarked for demolition.
Grange Court in Stevenston is also set to be razed to the ground to make way for new, ‘affordable’, family homes.
