Police are investigating a suspected arson attack in Norris Green this morning. Flats were evacuated following a fire on Scargreen Avenue, Norris Green at around 8.10am on Tuesday (January 16).

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene around 8.15am and found an empty flat on the first floor was ablaze. Four fire engines were sent and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought the fire using a hose reel jet. Adjacent flats were also evacuated and checked to ensure the fire hadn’t spread.

Once the flames were extinguished and all residents were accounted for, firefighters continued using a hose reel jet to dampen down the area while cutting away floor space to check for any fire spread. At 11.46am the crews handed the scene over to Merseyside Police and left.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “Emergency services attended and it’s believed that the fire could have been started deliberately. Inquiries are ongoing into the incident and if you have any information, please come forward by calling 101 or DM @MerPolCC on social media, quoting log number 156 of 16th January.”
