Bad weather ‘timing is unfortunate’ as bin collections in parts of Wrexham impacted

Bad weather and volume of waste after the festive period has been blamed for missed bin collections in certain wards in Wrexham.

Wrexham.com asked the council if rumours staffing issues affected collections were correct as a fact check – and the response did not reference that at all, pointing to weather issues only.

Darren Williams, Wrexham Council’s Chief Officer for Environment and Technical Services, said: “Unfortunately the weather has impacted our collections and the timing is unfortunate, as it coincides with one of the busiest times of the year for waste – just after the Christmas and New Year break.

“We continue to operate collections in accordance with our calendars and when we have issues we try and provide real time updates as soon as practical.

“Our winter maintenance work over the weekend has facilitated us being able to reach most collections during the bad weather. Our focussed work during the day is to prepare for the next scheduled refuse collections runs. This will continue as we work through this period and we will make all endeavours to get back on track as soon as possible.

“We urge everyone to utilise the email refuse collection reminder system and follow our local blogs and social media updates to ensure they keep track of our work.”

Wrexham.com has been told some town centre commercial bins had not been collected since the 27th December, prior to the bad weather.
