A man has been caught drug-driving for a third time in eight years.

Adam Buff had cannabis in his system when police stopped the Peugeot Bipper he was travelling in as he drive along the Bridge End Causeway section of the A52 at Donington.

It was a mistake that has seen the 32-year- old – who was behind the wheel without insurance or a full driving licence – hit with a 40-month ban and ordered to pay out more than £250.

Boston Magistrates’ Court

“It was 8.30am on July 5 (2024) when the defendant was stopped driving on the A52,” prosecutor Lottie Tyler told Boston Magistrates Court on Wednesday (January 8).

“He had no valid driving licence and no insurance.

“He failed a roadside drug test, testing positive for cannabis.”

Buff gave a reading of 4.6mcg of the drug per litre of blood. The legal limit is 2mcg.

The court heard Buff, of Sycamore Drive, Sleaford, had received a 15 month ban in 2016 and a three year ban in 2018 for similar offences.

“He has a provisional licence and a qualified driver was sat next to him, but only the qualified driver was insured,” said Phillipa Chatterton. defending Buff.

Miss Chatterton added her client was out of work but having ‘difficulty obtaining benefits’ due to a short period of time when he was self employed.

As well as his driving ban, Buff was fined £120 and ordered to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
