BBC Morning Live star shares battle as they admit ‘people assume I’m super confident’

BBC Morning Live and Strictly Come Dancing star Dr Punam Krishan has opened up about struggling with imposter syndrome.

The GP, 41, was paired with professional dancer Gorka Márquez on Strictly 2024 and their performance to Bhole Chudiye from the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham marked the first time a contestant had performed a traditional Bollywood dance on the show.

Dr Punam has revealed that Strictly has taught her to say yes to opportunities as well as helping her with her own self-belief, reports Wales Online.

Talking exclusively about her plans for 2025, Dr Punam said: “The one thing that Strictly has very much taught me is because I suffer massively from things like imposter syndrome. I think people tend to see me and just assume that I’m a super confident person but I think self-belief is something I’ve been really working on!

“So I think in regards to having done Strictly, next year for me is just a huge yes year, I’m just going to say yes to whatever comes to me!”

Dr Punam also revealed how she will be working on her book projects, television duties at BBC Morning Live and working as a GP. The medic added: “Just seeing what happens, whatever door may open, I will definitely take a peek round and see!”

However, despite a busy year ahead, Dr Punam, who was the fifth celebrity to leave Strictly, has revealed she won’t be taking part in the upcoming Strictly Come Dancing Live! tour.

The medic explained: “There’s just no way I could juggle my NHS schedule with the tour so I’ll be very much supporting all my pals who are doing it and I can’t wait to watch them but no, it’s not something I’ll be doing!”

She added: “I’m such a homebird as well, I just about managed to do the weekends when we were down in London and I’d be back [home] on the Sunday. I love going to watch the tour, it’s so much fun!”

Dr Punam has joined forces with Gas Safe Register to raise awareness of the differences between carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and colds which can often be mistaken.

Brits are being urged to ‘Check Your CO-ld’ as it’s revealed only a quarter (27%) recognise overlapping symptoms such as headaches, shortness of breath and fatigue as potential signs of CO exposure.

Dr Punam said of the campaign: “As a doctor for nearly 20 years, every year we have patients who present with carbon monoxide poisoning and really in this day and age everyone should be aware of what the signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are.”

She added: “Something that really alarmed me, we tend to see a lot of older people that are more vulnerable, that tend to be affected by carbon monoxide poisoning.

“Actually what the research showed, it’s actually more prevalent in younger people that they don’t know how to recognise the symptoms, how to prevent and many wouldn’t even have carbon monoxide alarms in their homes.”
