Beloved local North East bakery announced heartfelt closure

Finn’s Bakery, a cherished gem nestled at the back of an industrial estate, has revealed it will be closing its doors for good.

The news comes after what the bakery’s owners described as a “very rough couple of weeks”, during which escalating costs and financial challenges became overwhelming.

“After many sad conversations, hugs and tears, we have decided that it’s time for us to close and move on to the next chapter,” the statement from the bakery began.

The decision to close was not made lightly, however with rising prices for produce, increasing wages, and impending rent hikes it all make it increasingly difficult for Finn’s to keep up.

“Every month we found ourselves trying harder and harder, but due to circumstances out of our control, it became so hard to keep battling with it,” the statement continued.

Finn’s Bakery, though tucked away in a less-than-central location, cultivated a devoted customer base thanks to its welcoming atmosphere, quality offerings, and personable service.

Reflecting on the years of operation, the owners expressed deep gratitude to their customers, calling them “the most wonderful people.”

“Considering we were at the back of an industrial estate, we managed to attract the most wonderful people, and every day was nothing but a pleasure serving you and getting to know you all. I mean it sincerely when I say thank you all,” the announcement read.

The bakery also took a moment to celebrate its dedicated staff, praising their hard work and the warmth they brought to the café.

“Every person that worked in our bakery brought an energy and a spark that just filled our café with warmth! I will always and forever be in awe of this incredible team and the way they worked so hard to make our little bakery so lovely.”

The closure marks the end of what the owners describe as “the best adventure,” but they hope to see their regular customers around town to personally thank them for their support over the years.

The bakery was opened back in 2021 by dad Andy Simms who lovingly named the bakery after his son ‘Finn’.

Customers seem devastated at the announcement with many commenting their upset at this news.

“Good luck in your future ventures, and much love from us  thank you for all our amazing breakfasts.”

Another said: “Absolutely heartbroken to read this! Everything about Finns was perfect! Your food, you’re welcome and your gorgeous staff!!! A very sad day for Guisborough. We wish you the VERY best for the future and feel privileged to have enjoyed so many visits to you over these past few years.”

Another added: “Well (and while it’s obviously far worse for you) that makes me profoundly depressed. A business as good as yours should be thriving – best wishes to all involved, I really hope you find a happy way forward.”
