A man who assaulted his partner the morning after their relationship ended has appeared in court.
Benjamin Carter (22), now of Alfred Road in Dorchester, committed the offence in the Fordingbridge home he shared with his then girlfriend.
Southampton Crown Court heard how police were called to the property at 5am on 7th April last year by the victim.

Prosecutor Lucy Taylor told the court the pair had argued the night previously, resulting in their relationship coming to an end. Carter’s girlfriend had left the property before returning with a friend the next morning to collect her work clothes.
In the 999 call the victim was crying and said Carter had “put hands” on her. The court heard the incident involved him pushing her onto the bed, with him ending on top of her.
The victim, who declined to support the prosecution, did not suffer any injuries, Ms Taylor added.
Carter pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to one count of assault by beating.
Defending, Ellie Fargin said her client accepted he had pushed the victim towards the bed, for which he was “incredibly remorseful”.
She added there had been “conflict and tension” between the pair during the relationship on both sides.
The incident was out of character and there had been no contact between them since.
Handing Carter a two-year community order, which includes undertaking rehabilitation activity requirement sessions and 80 hours of unpaid work, Judge Peter Henry said: “It is troubling that a young man like you resorts to any sort of violence towards a female partner.”
