Birmingham police appeal after ‘extremely important’ item stolen from city address

Police have appealed for information after an “extremely important” violin was stolen in Birmingham. The special musical instrument was made in 1982 by the company of celebrated violin maker William Luff.

Luff, born in 1904, was known as one of Britain’s great violin-makers before he passed in 1993. His instruments were sought after around the world.

West Midlands Police today said a Luff violin was stolen, along with its bow and case, during a burglary on December 15 from an address in Lansdown Place, Birmingham. The break-in happened between midnight and 10am.

The force said the instrument is “extremely important to the owner”. A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Have you seen this musical instrument?

“This violin was stolen along with its bow and case during a burglary on December 15 from an address on Lansdown Place, Birmingham. The break-in happened between midnight and 10am. The instrument is extremely important to the owner.
