Members of the public raised the alarm in a Birmingham street after two males were spotted carrying weapons. The report came into police about youths with ‘knives and bats’ in Summer Road in Erdington shortly after 6.30pm on Sunday (January 12).
Youth violence and knife crime officers from the Project Guardian team joined Erdington officers and spotted a boy ‘acting suspiciously’ in Gravelly Lane. The 15-year-old tried to make off but was pursued on foot as he tried to hide in a pub.
The Project Guardian team posted on X and said: “Guardian Team 2 shifted towards Erdington following reports of 2 males with knives and bats. We chased a male who sought shelter in a nearby pub. But was detained, and we found a combat knife discarded under a car. Another in the cells on a productive Sunday!”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called at 6.40pm on Sunday night (January 12) after reports of someone carrying a knife on Summer Lane, Erdington. Officers from our Project Guardian team spotted a teenager acting suspiciously on Gravelly Lane.
“After a foot chase, he was stopped and searched, and a knife was recovered nearby. A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife. He remains in custody for questioning.”
