Chaddesley: Drivers warned after cars get stuck in flood water

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called out to Bromsgrove Road at lower Chaddesley, near Kidderminster, on Monday morning (January 6).

A spokesperson for the fire brigade said: “A crew from Wyre Forest Fire Station was called at 5:08am to a vehicle in water.

“All persons involved were safe and well but two vehicles were left in situ.

“There were no casualties and no other emergency services were required”.

On Facebook, the Wyre Forest Fire Station page posted that crews were “astounded that drivers persisted in trying to pass whilst they closed the road to deal with the incident”.

A fire service spokesperson said: “We especially urge people not to drive or walk into flood water.

“Flood water can be deceptively fast moving and there may be dangers which are not visible. These might include, for example, lifted manholes which could expose you to the risk of falling deep into drains from which you are unable to escape.

“People walking and driving into flood waters put not only themselves at risk but also those who might be called upon to rescue them.”

They offered guidance to those driving during flood warnings.

They added: “Do not take risks or ignore flood warning signs – you could be putting your car, yourself and others in danger by doing so

“Driving through flood water can be extremely dangerous because it is impossible to see how deep the water is or whether there are hazards under the water which could damage your car and leave you stranded”.
