Cheshire village hall receives donation for defibrillator

Appleton Thorn Village Hall is home to a defibrillator unit, installed back in 2019 following donations from various benefactors, including a £1,000 contribution from David Wilson Homes.

The housebuilder has now made another donation to help with the maintenance of the defibrillator.

Susan Plass, trustee of the Appleton Thorn Village Hall Fund, said: “The donation will be allocated purely for the maintenance of the defibrillator, which is for the use by the whole village.

“Local charities like the village hall provide many services directly to the community.

“We are constantly looking for funding for projects to improve our facilities.

“Last year, we provided funds and grants of over £50,000 to update our ancient septic tank system linking the drainage to the main sewer and update our 40-year-old toilets.

“We are now looking at updating our kitchen, back doors and hall floor, though we are most fearful of the roof needing to be replaced as it is such an old building.

“We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for its donation and consistent support to our local community via the village hall.”

It is the centre of Appleton Thorn and welcomes many groups and activities as a vital part of its income, including the CAMRA award-winning bar, a pre-school and nursery, the Appleton Thorn School of Dance, a local yoga club, an orchestra, and Brownies and Rainbows.

The hall can also be rented out for weddings, wakes, christenings and parties.

It also has a large field which can be used for outdoor events, or more recreationally by locals and children playing football.

“In crucial minutes during a cardiac arrest, it is vital that a defibrillator can be accessed quickly, and we are pleased that we could help with the maintenance for the unit at Appleton Village Hall.”
