A Chingford man has been charged with assisting ex-soldier Daniel Khalife’s escape from prison.
Imran Chowdhury, 25, was arrested in January 2024 and charged in December via postal requisition with one count of assisting an escaped prisoner.
He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, (7th January). It is not clear what assistance Chowdhury provided to Khalife.
Khalife, 23, escaped from HMP Wandsworth in September 2023 after he tied himself to the underside of a food delivery truck.
He had been awaiting trial for sharing classified information with contacts in Iran. In November 2024, Khalife was found guilty of spying for the Middle Eastern country.
The Metropolitan Police has said a 25-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of assisting Khalife in February 2024, but no action was taken against her.
