Christmas Day gesture by Cardamon Spice, Forres provided two families with free meals

Staff at a local business that gave away free meals on Christmas Day hope that more people will take up the offer next year.

Two families contacted Cardamon Spice at 66 High Street Forres to accept their promise of three meals to anyone struggling on the day.

A spokesperson confirmed the restaurant has been making the gesture – and opening to customers – on December 25 for the last few years.

He said: “Our intention is that on such a day no one should be hungry due to a lack of money so we post on Facebook that we are giving away some free food.

“The sad thing is, this year, we only found two families to give free food though we were ready to provide more!”

Cardamon Spice’s post read: “Christmas can be a fun time, bringing together family and friends, but for some it can be a lonely and isolating experience.

“We want to help our Forres friends by donating three single meals (starter, main, rice or naan) to any individual struggling on Christmas evening. Just drop us a message and we will try our best to make your Christmas a bit more merry.”

The spokesperson said: “One family had one member come and take the food. Another family of five accepted free delivery of their meal.

“We try to help people but not for compliments. However, people give us lots of love which we like a lot!”
