Dozens of homes have been left without electricity after power was switched off due to an “emergency”.
More than 170 customers were reportedly impacted by the outage in the Sturry area of Canterbury after an overheard cable was damaged.

The alarm was raised to UK Power Networks shortly before 10am.
Those in the CT3 4 and CT2 0 postcode areas have been impacted and although some homes have seen power restored, others remain offline.
“We are sorry for any disruption this may have caused you,” its website states.
“We did not know in advance there would be a power cut, but now we know, our teams will do everything they can to get your power back quickly.
“Engineers in our control room have switched some customers’ power back on in your area.

“To get everyone’s power back on we may need to attend to investigate and make repairs.”
More than 170 properties were reportedly impacted by the outage, according to UK Power Network’s website.
But only a few remain impacted, as of 1pm.
In an update at 12.30pm, the network operator said: “We’ve had an update from our staff there are now 16 properties still affected by the damaged overhead cable, as they have managed to safely divert some power, getting the lights back on for the majority of our customers.”
The company estimates the issue will be resolved by 2pm.
UK Power Networks was asked for further information about what caused the power cut.
