Devon pub called ‘most unspoilt’ is named best in the county

A Devon pub where “time stands still” has been crowned the best in the county by a travel expert. The Bridge Inn, in Topsham, was listed among the best pubs for each county in England.

The Telegraph curated the findings based on several factors so that you can get to a brilliant boozer no matter where you live or travel. And for Devon, it found that the best pub was a Grade II listed public house. The pub, on Bridge Hill, has previously been praised as “unspoilt” and being “an amazing traditional pub”.

In a description, travel writer Will Hawkes states: “Little altered since the dying days of the 19th century, The Bridge Inn, with its idiosyncratic layout and pervasive clutter, offers a unique experience even when compared to pubs of similar antiquity. No wonder Queen Elizabeth II made it the first pub she visited, in 1998 (a picture commemorating the occasion sits on the bar).”

Testimonials on the website include words to the effect of “this is one of Britain’s most unspoilt pubs.” and that it is “the sort of pub where time stands still and your pint glass is always full”.
