Escape to the Chateau documented the journey of Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree as they restored their idyllic French home to its former glory.
The show, which aired from 2016 to 2022, followed the couple’s trials and tribulations as they brought the 19th-century Chateau de la Motte-Husson back to life, raised their two young children, Arthur and Dorothy, and established a thriving business hosting weddings and events.
However, after six successful seasons, Dick and Angel decided it was time to bring the curtain down on the Channel 4 series. The couple, who have continued to build on their success with a string of tours, revealed that they had carefully considered their decision to “walk away” from the show.

In an exclusive interview with Devon Live, Dick explained that the couple’s priority was their children, who were entering a new phase of their lives.
He said: “The thing is, Escape to the Chateau is a year-long project for every season, and Arthur starts senior school, Dorothy is in her last year before she moves, and that change in the children was the rationale.
“Because we had back in 2022 huge conversations saying, before they get all the pressures that young people have in their lives on them, it was time for us to walk away from the escape. That’s why we did it,” reports Liverpool Echo.
“We told everybody at the beginning of 2022 because it had to be done. That’s why we have the big party at the end of 2022, literally because it was so, so important that Arthur and Dorothy do the transition into senior school with all the pressure they have with puberty and social media and everything else.”

“And that has been good because for Arthur, I think the pressure has been off for a bit, hasn’t it,” he added, turning to his wife.
“I worry more a bit more about Dorothy, actually,” Angel admitted before agreeing with Dick about their decision to walk away from Escape to the Chateau.
“It was exactly the right decision to make because they had never… since we moved here, they’ve had the cameras here all year round and it was just exactly the right thing to do.
“What we’re not against, we haven’t sort of hid them away from the media. They love it, they’re in the books and they come on tour.”
