Driver rescued by firefighters in Hanley Castle after floods

Emergency services were seen in Hanley Castle after a man in his 40s needed to be rescued from one-metre-deep water.

It has led to Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue re-issue warnings about the harms of driving into flood water.

Police, fire and an ambulance crew attended Mill Lane at 9.18am this morning to rescue the man.

“A man in his 40s was rescued from flood water, around 1m deep, using a rescue sledge and the swift water rescue team.

“The casualty was checked by the ambulance service, which attended along with the police.”

Residents have been urged not to drive or to walk through flood water.

“Flood water can be deceptively fast-moving, and there may be dangers that are not visible,” the Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added.

“People walking and driving into floodwaters put not only themselves at risk but also those who might be called upon to rescue them.”
