A man launched a “cowardly” hammer attack on his victim after a falling out between children. Jordan Chandramohan left his victim with a fractured skull, a court heard.
The 32-year-old, of Bromfield Park, Mold, was convicted of wounding with intent. A judge today jailed him for five years. Mold Crown Court heard there had been a falling out between children at a park in Greenfield near Holywell in Flintshire on March 31, 2023.
The judge His Honour Rhys Rowlands said it was over “something of nothing” but parents became involved. You can sign up for all the latest court stories here
Later there was a confrontation in the street between Chandramohan and the father of one of the boys. Chandramohan “armed himself with a hammer”. He hit the father with it on the back of the head. It caused an underlying small fracture of the skull.
Chandramohan aimed a second blow but the victim “blocked” it, avoiding injury. The judge said the effect of the first blow was profound. The victim got bad headaches and could hear high-pitched noise. It affected his work and sleep and he suffered depression and anxiety.
The judge said: “You used the hammer as a weapon. You took it out onto the street where your victim was attacked with more than one blow in a cowardly fashion.
“No doubt your offence was born out of a misguided sense of loyalty to [the child].” He did not qualify legally as a “dangerous” offender but the offence was so serious his custodial sentence could not be suspended, he added.
In a statement the victim said he feels lucky to be alive. He was left hearing a high-pitched noise in his ear and he couldn’t wear his welder’s mask at work due to his injury. He had lost his daughter in a road accident in 2021 and the attack affected his grieving process.
The defendant was also convicted of possession of cannabis but there was no separate sentence for that offence. The court heard he was jailed for four years for burglary in 2017 in an incident in which two shotguns were taken.
Myles Wilson, defending, said Chandramohan is “maturing”. He has a fantastic relationship with his children and is a successful double glazing salesman.
