The snow may have melted away across some parts of the region but several schools in County Durham remain closed on Tuesday (January 7).
It comes after a string of schools were forced to close their doors on Monday – the first day back after Christmas – due to the snow and cold conditions, which also caused widespread disruption to traffic and transport.
While no more weather warnings are currently set for this week, temperatures are expected to remain sub-zero, with Darlington set to brace -6 degrees this evening.
Today, three schools remain shut in the Durham County Council region.
These include:
Lanchester EP Primary School, Durham
The school is closed today and will reopen on Wednesday, January 8.
This is a partial closure for years 1 and 2 only due to a burst pipe in KS1. The site is waiting for emergency repairs to the ceiling and electrics in that part of the building.
St Stephens CE Primary School, Willington
The school is closed today due to no heating in the building – with the authority confirming it is working to fix the fault. It hopes to reopen the site on Wednesday.
