Fears have been raised that barriers beside the recently officially opened Riverside Way pose a danger to the public.
Broken and deteriorated railings have been highlighted by a dog walker who wanted to make people aware of the damage beside the stretch near the River Ness which was opened by ‘Santa’ and some schoolchildren last month following at least £2.5 million of investment.

“Given the vast sums spent on the Riverside Way, which has achieved nothing, why did they not replace the barriers?” asked the concerned resident. “As you can see, they have degraded so badly they are now incredibly dangerous, broken into spikes and lying on the road.”

The Riverside Way was revamped to make it more attractive as a walking, wheeling and cycling route.
A spokesperson for Highland Council said: “Our local team are aware that the fence is deteriorating and in need of urgent attention.
“They have arranged for a fabricator to do some work on the fence and this is in hand.
“Obviously with the current weather, our staff are prioritising providing a winter service however once the fabricator has produced the sections and the weather clears they will be replaced.”
