RNLI lifesavers rescued two people after a yacht suffered engine failure in strong winds near Chanonry Point.
The charity’s Kessock lifeboat was scrambled at 2.22pm on Friday after the coastguard requested help assisting the yacht after it lost power.
The four volunteer crew set sail for the sailing yacht, which was attempting to make its way back to its home port.
But with a falling tide and a strong south-westerly wind, the vessel was struggling to make safe way and was “at risk of being blown onto the shore”, said an RNLI spokesperson.
They added: “Arriving on scene the helm made a quick assessment that the safest course of action was to take the vessel under tow to Inverness marina.
“Making steady way under tow the lifeboat had the yacht safely alongside its berth within an hour and in the hands of our colleagues at Inverness Coastguard.
“The struggling vessel’s occupants did the right thing calling for assistance before things developed and the light fell. As always we would encourage anyone who sees or is in danger near the water to dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
