POLICE are investigating an incident in which a male smashed up a vehicle with a hammer near a retirement complex.
In a monthly update to the January full meeting of Hungerford Town Council, the neighbourhood police team stated: “On December 7 several calls were made to police of reports there was a male armed with a hammer near to the Redwood House area smashing up a vehicle.
“We are unable to make further comment on this incident at this time as the investigation is ongoing.”
The team also arrested a local male suspected of carrying out six instances of shoplifting in the town over the last few weeks.
The said: “Thank you to those that have provided statements and CCTV that enabled us to identify the individual.”
The update added: “In the early hours of New Year’s Day an altercation was reported on the High Street.
“Two persons were arrested and another was taken to hospital but shortly later came home.”
In an unrelated incident, the window to Hungerford Gourmet Oriental in High Street was smashed around 3am on the same day.
One person was arrested in connection with this incident.
Also during last December the team flagged up three reports of antisocial behaviour; one instance of theft relating to parcels left on a doorstep and one instance of shoplifting from Dobbies Garden centre on the Bath Road.
