‘I abandoned the car’: North East driving test nightmares

Readers of The Northern Echo took to Facebook to recount their ups and downs in the pursuit of driving success.

Andrea Whitehouse detailed her struggles, revealing, “Failed it three times on minors.

“The first time, I abandoned the car on the roundabout in Cockerton.

“Got out and said I don’t want to do this anymore.”

Her perseverance paid off, as she eventually passed on her fourth attempt, adding: “Made me a better driver as it was all due to nerves.”

Conversely, Julian Rafferty proudly said: “No. Passed first time.”

Other users chimed in with their own experiences, including Lynn Nicholson-Smith who expressed her frustration, saying: “Nerves…gave up after four attempts!”

Frank Webb humorously recounted his experience, stating: “I failed the second because the examiner was also on test by the chief examiner.”

Meanwhile, David Wigley lightened the mood with his friend’s tale of failure, quoting his friend’s unusual response to a question: “What signs do you expect to see on country roads?? The reply was eggs for sale, and pick your own fruit.”

Others celebrated their successes, with Fiona Riddle noting: “I passed first time, December 23, 1980.”
