Inside home of Emmerdale star Jeff Hordley including adaption for chronic condition

Emmerdale actor Jeff Hordley has a special adaption to his home following a chronic diagnosis. The star, who plays Cain Dingle on the soap, lives with Crohn’s disease and modified his diet to treat the illness after a nutritionist recommended he follow a strict detox and cut alcohol, sugar, meat, wheat and dairy from his diet.

To help cope with the new lifestyle, Jeff and his wife and co-star, Zoe Henry, have installed an allotment in their rural retreat and cook everything from scratch. Previously speaking about Jeff’s condition Loose Women, Zoe said that it “changed [their] lives.”

Jeff himself said that he worried that the diagnosis would stop him from pursuing an acting career. As an ambassador for Crohn’s and Colitis UK, Jeff said: “You are not alone if you are suffering from Crohn’s or Colitis… although sometimes you might feel as if you are.

“There are at least 300,000 people with IBD in the UK – I’m one of them.” Originally the actor mistook symptoms for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), but when he became too tired to attend lectures at university, he knew something more serious was the cause.

“I was scared it would stop my acting career from taking off,” Jeff continued. “Even though I tried to avoid foods that upset my digestive system, such as coffee and Chinese takeaways, I was still sick and tired and I kept losing weight.”

On screen, 2025 looks set to be another explosive year on Emmerdale after flashforward scenes teased plenty of drama is on the way over the next 12 months, Liverpool Echo reports. Characters such as Kim Tate and mark Charnock look set to be at the centre of the action once again in the fictional Yorkshire village.
