Katie Rose McKeown passed away peacefully at home on Thursday.
The 14-year-old had been diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma in 2018.
Her family announced her passing on a social media page that had been documenting her cancer journey.
Her parents Kevin and Una said: “We regret to inform you our beautiful daughter Katie Rose (age 14) gained her angel wings (on Thursday) peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
“We understand this devastating news will be a huge shock to many of her friends and followers on this page.
“As a family we tried our absolute best to never give up on seeking a cure for Katie Rose’s cancer, but sadly that all changed drastically 10 weeks ago.
“Katie Rose began to experience pain symptoms which resulted in spinal cord compression due to her disease progressing.
“Katie Rose was finally discharged from hospital six weeks ago, our family’s wish was to nurse Katie Rose at home where we know she was most happiest.
“We were honoured and privileged to be able to follow through with our final wish to care for Katie Rose at home alongside her two sisters Grace and Olivia and of course her beloved dog Marley. This has given us huge comfort and peace of mind.
“Please continue to keep our beautiful angel and family in your prayers as we endeavour to get through the next part of Katie Rose’s journey.”
Katie Rose’s funeral will take place on Monday. It will leave the family home at 10.15am to the Church of St Colmcille’s, Knockaconey for 11am Mass, with burial afterwards in the adjoining churchyard.
Katie Rose was a past pupil of St Patrick’s Primary School in Armagh.
In a tribute, the school remembered her “vibrant spirit and quick wit”.
“Her early years in our school saw many days filled with fun, learning and adventure with friends made along the way,” the school said.
“Although her life changed following her diagnosis in Primary 3, her strength in the face of such adversity was an inspiration to us all.
“She will forever hold a special place in the memories of all who had the pleasure of teaching, working and playing with her.”
Local sports clubs also paid tribute.
Crossmaglen Rangers said: “The entire Crossmaglen Rangers club are saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Katie Rose McKeown.”
The City of Armagh NI Supporters’ Club said: “Our thoughts are with the McKeown family as they mourn the sad loss of Katie Rose.”
