Kidderminster Police respond after reports of drug use and ‘cuckooing’

It follows reports of anti-social behaviour in the 1902 building in the Horsefair area of Kidderminster, where “crack pipes” and “needles” were found by residents in hallways and stairs.

Photos shared by resident Georgia Price show discarded syringes, blood spattered on the floor, cigarette buts and faeces on the floor in the communal areas of the former carpet factory building, which was converted into flats a few years ago.

In a post on Facebook, the Wyre Forest Police page said that officers in Broadwaters visited a number of premises in the area “where concerns around drug use and “cuckooing” have been raised through the local community”.

They said: “There has been positive engagement from this with multiple members of the public engaging with these high visibility patrols”.

‘Cuckooing’ is when criminals use a vulnerable person’s home as a base for their operations.

Ms Price has said she is scared for the safety of her young child whilst living at the building.

Ms Price said that the apartment block, which is managed by housing association Citizen, attracts antisocial behaviour and claims that drug users have “quite literally taken over the communal areas”.

Ms Price, said that her young toddler Harley-James once picked up a “crack pipe.”

Another resident, Caitlyn Clarke, said she had walked with her son past “people injecting on the stairs.”

Director of housing care and support at Citizen, Peter Gill, said: “We are aware of the anti-social behaviour at the 1902 building in the Horsefair and have been working hard with our partners to resolve these issues. Due to the current situation, we are unable to comment further on this incident while the police conduct their investigation.

“If any of our customers experience anti-social behaviour we need you to report it to us. If you witness a crime, make sure you contact the police on 999.”
