Labour councillors out litter picking in Edmonton

Labour councillors in Enfield have shown their commitment to cleaning up the borough’s streets – by organising their own litter-picking session.

The team of eleven councillors, including council leader Ergin Erbil, donned hi-vis vests as they patrolled several streets around Edmonton, filling dozens of bags with waste.

More litter-picks are now being planned over the next few weeks with the public being invited to join in.

George Savva, an associated cabinet member at Enfield Council, said: “Although it was frosty, the spirits were high and the turnout surpassed all expectations.

“People were very happy to see us and talk to us, the leader of the council joined us and all in all [it] was simply wonderful experience to be repeated time and again for the coming weeks and months.”

The next community litter-pick being organised locally by Labour councillors will take place this Saturday (18th) from 11am at the junction of Hertford Road and Bedford Avenue, with volunteers welcome to join.

Another session will be held on Saturday 25th from 11am at the corner of Aberdeen Road and Edinburgh Road, with more events planned weekends in February and March.
