Levenshulme: Hospital order for killer who stabbed man to death

A man has been sentenced to a hospital order after stabbing another man to death.

Police responding to a disturbance at a home on Rushmere Avenue in the Levenshulme area of Manchester in July 2023 found Osagie Aimiyekagbon, 36, dead in the kitchen.

Samuel Opokiti, 30, was initially arrested on suspicion of assault before being questioned on suspicion of murder.

A judge at Manchester Crown Court found Opokiti, of Middlesex Road, Manchester, was a danger to himself and others.

Greater Manchester Police said officers discovered Mr Aimiyekagbon at about 20:45 BST on 9 July with serious stab wounds and a knife was recovered from the scene.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, the force added.

A post-mortem examination established the cause of death to be multiple stab wounds.

Det Ch Insp Neil Higginson said: “It has been more than 18 months since the tragic death of Osagie and I hope today’s sentence gives a sense of closure to his family and loved ones.

“We know just how much his family have been affected by his loss and our thoughts remain with them today as they continue to re-build their lives.”
