Local organisations in Christchurch including town’s carnival and guides win vital funding in the annual Community Grants programme

FUNDING totalling £10,000 has been distributed among Christchurch groups under the town council’s annual community grants programme.

Among the groups to benefit was the Christchurch Carnival committee, which received £1,000, and the town’s guides, given £850 towards new tents and camping cookware.

A spokesperson for the grants programme said: “The distribution of these community grants underscores Christchurch’s commitment to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment.

“By empowering a variety of projects and groups, the funding will touch the lives of residents across the community, from young carers to seniors, from cultural enthusiasts to outdoor adventurers.

“This year’s awards not only reflect the diversity of the Christchurch community but also its shared vision of progress and connection.”

Others to receive handouts were Bournemouth Above and Beyond, which was given £400 for food and hot beverage supplies, and Christchurch Community Partnership, awarded £1,000 for its ‘Eradication of Social Isolation’ project and a six-month trial of a bus buddy service.

Christchurch Life Saving Club was given £1,000 to update equipment and improve clubhouse facilities, while Friends of Druitt Garden received £600 to purchase a projector and accessories for community talks.

National Coastwatch Institute was awarded £500 to install a high-powered PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) camera, and Highcliffe Charity Players received £500 to contribute towards the cost of a costume for their Goldilocks and the Three Bears pantomime.

Honeypot Children’s Charity was given £500 for residential breaks for two young carers and Christmas gifts for 15 youngsters.

Life Education Wessex & Thames Valley had £400 to support health and well-being education for children in local schools, while Mudeford Cricket Club was handed £500 for equipment for youth players.

Mudeford Guide Hall received £1,000 to cover running costs, including insurance and safety checks, and Park Yoga had £250 to fund a yoga instructor for 20 weeks.

Prama Life was given £500 to support dementia and carers support groups in Christchurch, while the Phoenix Widowers’ Group received £1,000 to assist with running costs, including hall hire and insurance.
