A man and woman were seriously injured after a brawl broke out in a street. Merseyside Police were called to Normanton Avenue in Aigburth at around 3.30am today, Monday, January 13.
It followed a report of an “altercation” involving around five people. A spokesperson of the force said two people, a woman and a man, were being treated in hospital for serious injuries which are not life threatening.
Police have since arrested a 17-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man from Aigburth on suspicion of Section 18 assault. They are in police custody to be questioned.
Following the incident, a cordon was in place at both ends of the road and forensics could be seen gathering evidence. Police said the investigation is in the “early stages” and appealed for people with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: “Although two arrests have been made, I would urge anyone who was in the vicinity who witnessed the incident to please contact us – as you may have vital information that could help with our enquiries.”
