David Summers-Smith, 28, is charged with the murder of Royce Mallett, from Haswell, County Durham, last July.
Emergency services were called to a car park on Wodonga Place in South Albury, NSW, Australia at about 6.15pm on July 8, and found Mr Mallett with a stab wound to his chest.
The dad-of-two, 30, was taken to Albury Base Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The case of Summer-Smith was back before Magistrate A Murray at Albury Local Court at 9am local time on Tuesday (January 14) morning.
Summers-Smith was re-remanded in custody pending a further hearing before the same court on February 4.

That hearing will be listed for charge certification – a type of hearing in the Australian courts where the charges being brought against a defendant are confirmed by the police.
No plea has been entered at this point.
Royce Mallett had moved down under just a month before he died and was due to return in August.
