Manchester Airport issues update as snow closes runway

Originally, the airport shared on X: “Our runways are temporarily closed due to heavy snow, as our teams work hard to clear them as quickly as possible.

“The safety of our passengers is our top priority, and we appreciate your patience during this time. Please check with your airline for the latest flight information and allow extra travel time today.

“We will update you as soon as possible. Thank you.”

Manchester Airport updates passengers as runway remains closed

Shortly after, Manchester Airport updated passengers with another message posted to the social media platform.

It said: “Our runways remain closed as we continue to clear the airfield after continued heavy snow in the last hour.”

The airport reassured passengers that the operations would resume when possible.

It added: “We prioritise the health and safety of our passengers and operations will resume as soon as possible.

“Please check with your airline for your latest flight information. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

The temporary closure of Manchester Airport’s runway comes after the Met Office issued weather warnings for snow, ice and rain across the UK for this weekend.
