Originally, the airport shared on X: “Our runways are temporarily closed due to heavy snow, as our teams work hard to clear them as quickly as possible.
“The safety of our passengers is our top priority, and we appreciate your patience during this time. Please check with your airline for the latest flight information and allow extra travel time today.
“We will update you as soon as possible. Thank you.”

Shortly after, Manchester Airport updated passengers with another message posted to the social media platform.
It said: “Our runways remain closed as we continue to clear the airfield after continued heavy snow in the last hour.”

Now though, the airport has told passengers its runways are open again with some delays still possible.

In an update posted to X after 9.40am, it said: “Our runways are now open, but as a result of the earlier closure, some departures and arrivals may still experience delays as our teams work to de-ice aircraft and clear walkways.”
The airport reiterated that passengers must check for the latest updates via their airlines if they are flying today.
It also thanked its staff “for their hard work in getting the runways operational again.”
