Meghan Markle’s dad has claimed he is in the ‘same boat’ as King Charles. Thomas Markle reportedly has not seen his daughter Meghan since before she married Prince Harry in 2018.
The 80-year-old was set to attend the royal wedding but did not join his daughter’s celebrations after he was caught staging paparazzi photographs at the time. This move is believed to have fractured their relationship, which was later worsened when extracts of a personal letter from Meghan to Thomas were leaked in the press.
Despite no longer being a working royal and living in the US, it is understood Meghan’s relationship with her dad has not mended. Before turning 80 last July, Thomas told the Daily Mail he would love to hear from his daughter and see his grandchildren Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

He has never met Prince Harry and Meghan’s children, Express reports. He said that he is in the ‘same boat as the King’ as it is believed the 76-year-old monarch also has a limited relationship with his grandchildren.
Thomas told the Daily Mail: “I’ve never been one for birthdays, but I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch. I would love to meet my grandchildren, but I would be happy with a photograph at this stage.
“They have two grandpas who want to see them, one of whom is the King of England. I never in my 80 years thought I’d be in the same boat as the King.”
The King is reportedly still in contact with Prince Harry and Meghan, who have lived in America for the last five years. But they are said to have limited face-to-face contact.
The King last saw Harry in February last year following the 76-year-old’s cancer diagnosis. It is not known when the King last saw Prince Harry’s children, but he reportedly speaks to them over the phone.
