Moment arsonist pours petrol over Newcastle barber shop

Dilovan Sindi was captured on CCTV walking into the venue with a can before dousing the Stamfordham Road venue and several people in petrol on May 23, 2023.

A struggle followed, which ended with a lighter held by the 29-year-old igniting the fuel, causing a horrific explosion in the Westerhope salon.

It is believed that Sindi, of Sulgrave Road, Washington, was in dispute with the owner of the business and was looking to target him.

Sindi was left with serious injuries while another victim had 65% burns to his body, forcing him to remain in hospital for six months.

A child and his father who were in the shop at the time were physically uninjured but both continue to suffer serious psychological effects from the attack.

One man escaped without injury, while another sustained minor injuries to his leg and continues to receive psychological counselling as a result of the incident.
