THERE are more than 2,000 registered sex offenders living in Devon and Cornwall, new data shows.

A report released by the Ministry of Justice, shows 2,202 sex offenders living in the area covered by Devon and Cornwall Police as of March 2024, which is an eight percent increase from the previous year when the figure stood at 2,032 and equates to one for every 746 people aged over 10.
Since the figures were first published in 2010/11, the number of sex offenders living in Devon and Cornwall has nearly doubled; there were 1,166 registered sex offenders living in the area at that time.
Notably, the figures do not include the prison population.
In total, the data shows 70,052 sex offenders in England and Wales, an increase from 68,357 the year prior.
The figures released by the Ministry of Justice cover offenders managed by Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements, which aims to prevent further offences.
