New deal for short breaks service for Warrington residents

A report on the issue will come before the council’s cabinet at its meeting on Monday.

It seeks authority to award the tendered contract for the provision of short breaks, with a contract commencement date of April 1, 2025.

It aims to advise cabinet members on the outcome of the recent procurement exercise undertaken for the provision of a Warrington short breaks service for six to 18-year-old children and young people who have disabilities and complex needs, and to recommend acceptance of the tender outcome that is ‘in line with local priorities and believed to offer good quality’ and be the ‘most economically advantageous tender’ for this contract.

The cabinet is recommended to approve the award of the contract to the ‘most economically advantageous tender’ for the period of four years commencing on April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2029, with the potential for three 12-month extensions, at a ‘full contract value’ of £357,000.

According to the report, the annual contract value of the successful bidder is £51,000 per annum.

It adds: “The contract award will ensure increased supply and access to services for children and young people in specialist group environments, supporting social interaction and supporting them to develop skills and experiences whilst accessing play and leisure activities.”

It also states that the provision of this contract is statutory requirement under The Breaks for Carers of Disabled Children Regulations 2011 and is an ‘important element’ of the council’s strategy to support families caring for children and young people at home.
