Just last week, 83-year-old Brian Nichol took the first five pensioners out for a meal for his first-ever weekly pensioners lunch club.
Brian, a retired photographer, used social media to call out for pensioners in the town to head out for a bite to eat and chat – and said he’d pay the bill as well as picking them up and driving them home.
Within hours, Brian was inundated with praise and thanks for his selfless act, with many calling it a “lovely gesture”.
Brian told The Northern Echo: “I have been doing charity work for over 25 years – and I love doing it. At Christmas, I gave every pensioner I met in town £20 to help towards Christmas.
“But now, I’m working on this pensioners lunch club – it is hard sometimes though to get pensioners to come forward. They are very independent!
“I have had a lot of support – it is fantastic to think that there are so many people behind me supporting me for what I do.”
