Northumbria Police supported the National Police Chiefs’ Council-led operation from December 1 to January 1.
Officers increased patrols on the region’s roads, and carried out more vehicle stops.
Offences included 98 people caught driving under the influence of alcohol, 39 under the influence of drugs, 35 unfit to drive due to alcohol or drugs, and three for failure to provide a sample.
Sergeant Glen Robson, from Northumbria Police’s Road Safety team, said: “We back this campaign every December as unfortunately figures show the festive period sees a spike in drink and drug driving.
“Our latest results speak volumes, as we arrested a significant number of drivers who, for the most part, were suspected of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.
“There really is no excuse to take such a risk – you could ruin your own life in doing this, as well as the lives of countless others.”
