One-woman crimewave banned from Tesco and Boots store in Margate

A mum-of-three who was jailed following a prolific campaign of offending has now been banned from Tesco and Boots stores.

Diana Mikova, 27, from Thanet, had been handed a number of chances to stay out of prison after being convicted of thefts to fund her drug habit, included stealing a friend’s expensive iPhone.

But Mikova continued to offend and embarked on a seventh-month crime spree between March and October.

She stole from shops, kicked a police officer, swiped an electric bike worth £2,500 and raided an Airbnb she had previously stayed at.

In December, the mum was jailed for 38 weeks, and yesterday (January 9) she was handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), which will last three years, following an application from police.

Elizabeth Green, prosecuting said: “The Criminal Behaviour Order terms are that she must not go to the College Walk (Square) in Margate, not to enter the Tesco store in Northdown Road, Cliftonville and not to enter the Boots store in Margate other than to leave or pick up a prescription there.

“She must also not touch any vehicle without the owner’s permission and she must not have a bank card in her possession that isn’t in her name.”

Mikova’s solicitor, Hugh Roberts, told the court the order wasn’t contested but said his client didn’t know where she would be living when she was released from prison next week.

Mikova started offending in 2018, but in February last year – while pregnant with her third child – was handed a 26-week suspended prison sentence for a number of theft-related offences.

On that occasion, District Judge Justin Barron spared her immediate custody in an effort to help her beat her heroin addiction, warning her: “Be aware you’ve had these chances.”

But in December her failure to stay out of trouble was laid bare as she appeared via videolink at Margate Magistrates’ Court to be sentenced for her more recent crimes – some of them carried out while on bail.

The first took place on March 9 this year, when she stole an electric bicycle from the communal hallway of flats she had been staying at in New Cross Street, Margate, and sold it to buy drugs.

The bike had been a Christmas present for a resident, who had only moved into his accommodation seven weeks before.

The following month, Mikova booked a stay at an Airbnb in Cliftonville, before returning four days later to burgle the property, taking items worth about £150, and using using a key code to gain access.

On May 18, Mikova was confronted by a police officer who knew she was wanted in connection with a number offences. She then kicked the officer in the leg.

There were also two thefts from vehicles, with Mikova stealing a subwoofer and rachets from one in April, and a unique £185 puffer jacket from another in June.

On October 2, she was challenged as she was seen looking into the boot of a car.

The owner, Chelsea Ward, took hold of her and called police, but Mikova pulled her hair and ran away.

In December Mikova pleaded guilty to and was sentenced for 12 counts of shoplifting, theft of a pedal cycle, burglary other than a dwelling, assault on an emergency worker, assault by beating and two counts of theft from a vehicle.

She also pleaded guilty to failing to attend a drug appointment and vehicle interference but did not receive separate penalties for those incidents.
