A seemingly ordinary house on the market for £500k has left people speechless after they spotted a rather unusual feature.
The property, in St Albans, Hertfordshire, was featured on the TikTok page Housing Horrors, which is dedicated to showing off quirky properties. On this occasion, the home featured a room covered in penguin paraphernalia.
While the rest of the terraced house has standard rooms, one bedroom is entirely decked out in a penguin theme, complete with penguin books, tea towels, prints, and pillows. The TikTok tour showed off the Rightmove listing, commenting: “Oh my days, they’ve got a full on penguin shrine, absolutely everything in this room is penguin-theme. They’ve got penguin books, they’ve got penguin tea towels, they’ve got penguin prints, penguin pillows.
“Imagine going on a night out and bringing a girl back and you’ve got all these penguins staring at her. I think she would definitely run out the door.”
They also express their amazement at the sheer amount of penguin merchandise, saying: “I think that is even a penguin snow globe. I wonder if the owners of this property like penguins, probably not, I’m not too sure but look at that massive penguin there. He is absolutely huge.
“They’ve even got a little penguin t-shirt there. This is absolutely insane.” The TikTok clip went viral, garnering 344,000 views, 7,465 likes and drawing close to 200 comments.
But the real shock was the £500,000 price tag. One viewer couldn’t believe it: “That being £500,000 is absolutely insane.” Another added: “£500k?! Surely like £170k if that.”
The conversation then turned as viewers pondered the origin of the copious penguin paraphernalia. One suggested: “They once told their granny that penguins are cute.”
This prompted someone else to chime in with a similar story: “What happened is, they mentioned they liked penguins and that was it! Now everybody buys them penguins for Christmas, birthdays or from holidays and they don’t have the heart to throw them away!”
Fellow penguin aficionados expressed their delight over the themed room, with one declaring: “That’d 100% be my house, I’m obsessed with them! ” Others left heartwarming remarks such as “this is adorable” and “I’d love it though”. One particular fan posited: “I’d pay £500k for the penguin collection but not the house.”
Yet, strikingly absent from the Rightmove advertisement was any reference to the penguins, stirring speculation among potential buyers whether the vast array of penguin ornaments comes with the property – an inquiry posted by an eager TikTok user.
