Pensioner fighting for his life after attack at Soho Road 74 bus stop in Handsworth

A pensioner is fighting for his life after he was ‘attacked’ at a city bus stop. The 82-year-old man was waiting for the number 74 bus service on Soho Road, Handsworth, when he was assaulted at around 3.30pm yesterday, January 14.

It happened outside shops Divine and Kang Fashion, near Boulton Road junction. His attacker fled the scene, police said.

The victim was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. West Midlands Police has launched an investigation into the incident.

Det Supt Shaun Edwards said: “We’re urgently reviewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses as we work to understand what happened and why, and who was responsible.

“If you were in the area at the time and saw what happened, or think you may have captured any part of what happened on dashcam or mobile phone, it’s vital you get in touch with as soon as possible.”
