The railway line between Newcastle and Edinburgh saw delays this morning (January 4) after a person was struck by a train.

The incident, which occurred on one of the UK’s key rail routes has left passengers facing delays and cancellations whilst prompting messages of support from rail operators.

A spokesperson for National Rail said: “Lines have now reopened following the earlier incident where a person was hit by a train between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

“As service returns to normal, trains running between these stations may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 10am.”

LNER said: “Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Newcastle and Berwick Upon Tweed, train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause to your journey today.
