Person in hospital after incident at Aycliffe Oakleaf Sports Complex

The air ambulance was seen landing at the centre just before 3pm today (Monday, January 6).

Road paramedics also attended and took one person to hospital.

A Great North Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “Our critical care team was activated at 2.46pm to reports of a medical incident at a sports complex in Newton Aycliffe.

“We had two doctors and a paramedic on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 2.55pm.

“Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient. The patient was taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew, accompanied by our team.”

Oakleaf Sports Complex confirmed that the children’s football training at 4pm was cancelled.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called to an incident at Oak Leaf Sports Complex in Newton Aycliffe shortly before 2.30pm.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews, one specialist paramedic and were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service. One patient was taken to hospital.”
