The fire service confirmed nobody was injured during the incident as six fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, four main jets, and two hose reels were deployed to tackle the fire.

Though the cause of the fire remains unknown and according to Hampshire police it is not deemed to be suspicious.

In the wake of the fire several homes near the restaurant in the Bishopstoke area were affected by a power cut.

A resident who lives opposite the pub and wished to remain anonymous said: “I’ve never seen so many flashing lights – there were both fire engines and a couple of ambulances.

“I’ve not known anything quite like it, it feels like a part of your childhood is gone. It used to be a doctor’s surgery many years ago before it became a pub.”

(Image: NQ) In a statement, a spokesperson for Toby Carvery said: “We are grateful and wish to thank the emergency services who have responded to the fire at our Bishopstoke restaurant which has ensured no one was harmed or injuries occurred.

“Once we have a clear understanding of the cause and extent of the damage we will provide further updates on the timeline for the reopening of restaurant.

“In the meantime, we apologise to guests who were planning to visit us and are currently contacting them to offer alternative options at our nearest Toby Carvery in Hilsea, or at our sister restaurants which locally include Harvester, Vintage Inns and carvery at the White Swan in Mansbridge.”
