A police car was damaged during a high-speed chase that led to the closure of the A55 and resulted in a man’s arrest. The incident began at around 5pm on Sunday in Bangor when officers attempted to stop a vehicle suspected of speeding on Caernarfon Road, which links A55 junction 10 and the city centre.
The driver failed to stop, prompting a police pursuit. The car was eventually stopped by a Roads Crime Unit officer on the A55 junction 10 sliproad, an action that temporarily shut down the A55 on Sunday evening. Despite the damage to the police vehicle, the officer involved was unharmed. North Wales Police stated: “A man has been arrested following a police pursuit in the Bangor area. At around 5pm on Sunday, January 12th, officers attempted to stop a vehicle suspected to be driving at speed on Caernarfon Road, however, the vehicle did not stop, and a pursuit ensued.
“A short time later, an officer of the Roads Crime Unit brought the car to a stop on the A55 slip road at J10. Thankfully, the officer was not injured during the incident, although the police vehicle sustained substantial front-end damage.
