Police issue statement after death of TikTok star Sheffield Keeley

Police have released a statement after reports a Sheffield ‘TikTok’ star died after being found unresponsive in the city centre.

Emergency services were called to Arundel Gate on Tuesday, January 14 at around 6.15pm after reports a woman had been found unconscious. On arrival at the scene officers found the woman was receiving treatment.

She was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. A 47-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance but has since been released on police bail.

The woman has been named locally as Keeley Thorton, who went ‘viral’ on TikTok and nicknamed ‘Sheffield Keeley’ for singing I’m Like a Bird by Nelly Furtado and other songs.. A gofundme has now been set up by friends to help pay for Keeley’s funeral.

Keeley spotted by fans and asked to sing songs

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:” On Tuesday night (14 January) at 6.15pm, we were made aware by the ambulance service of a woman unconscious on Arundel Gate in Sheffield city centre. Officers attended, and the woman, 34, was found to be receiving treatment at the scene.

“She was conveyed to hospital by paramedics but was sadly pronounced dead on arrival. Her death is currently being treated as unexplained.

“Her family has been notified.

“A scene was established, which was later removed, and a 47-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance.

“She has since been released on police bail as enquiries continue.
